Black Mother of Pearl
Black mother-of-pearl, also known as black nacre, is a stunning organic material taken from the inner layers of certain mollusc shells.

Black shells is primarily sourced from the shells of molluscs such as abalone, oysters and certain clams. It consists of multiple layers of calcium carbonate crystals, called aragonite, embedded in an organic protein called conchiolin.
The combination of these materials gives black mother-of-pearl its unique iridescent appearance, with hues ranging from deep charcoal and ebony to subtle greens, blues and purples.
The iridescence of black mother-of-pearl is caused by the refraction and diffraction of light as it passes through the layers of the shell.
This natural phenomenon produces variations in colour depending on the angle of light and viewing angle, adding to its charm and visual depth.
